Scrap Box News December 2008

The Unique Boutique
There is a new shopping space at The Scrap Box. The "Unique Boutique" is stocked with an assortment of donated items. Some items have been hand-crafted by out artist friends—some of whom sell their work at craft shows for much higher prices. Items include teddy-bear decorations, CD wallets and visors, handmade cards, holiday wall-hangings, blank books, a variety of kits, jewelry, bags, pouches, and some very nice gift baskets.

Other Holiday Gift Ideas
Scrap Box gift certificates make great gifts for your child's teacher. Or check our mail order policies for easy out of town gifts. You could give one of our ready-made kits: cars, critters, puppets. A brand new option is a Bucket of Fun: fill a Kilwin's ice cream bucket with treasures from the bulk shopping area for only $4.00! Also, we have new CDs from Borders: yours for a donation of only $1 each!

Holiday Hours
Christmas Closing:
The Scrap Box will be closed for the winter holiday from
December 21, 2008 through January 1, 2009.
We'll be open as usual on January 2

Make and Take Activity
On Friday, January 2, 2009, The Scrap Box will offer a free activity for kids of all ages. You are invited to create a paper critter that fits on a pencil. All materials will be provided: the best of our recycled stuff! Because the activity is free, you can bring your friends, especially those who have never visited The Scrap Box before.

Make and Take Jan. 2, 2009
Please Support The Scrap Box
Last year at this time we weren't sure we'd survive. Would our twenty-fifth year be our last! But thanks to the support of our Scrap Box friends and supporters, we're still here. The bottom line is we finished our fiscal year only $500 short of being in the black.

Our customer base has expanded to include more college students and former customers. We've participated in new community events, giving us more visibility. The web site has more pictures and videos to inspire new and old customers. We've had some really cool scraps over the past year, and new materials are still coming in! Again, we thank our customers and friends for their support.

At the same time, our expenses (gas for picking up materials, electricity, gas, and even water bills) are rising dramatically. The number of workshops has dropped because of skyrocketing transportation costs.

You can help: tell your friends and acquaintances about how much you enjoy finding bargains at The Scrap Box! Word of mouth is our best advertising!

Renewing, or taking out a membership helps all of us. And even a small monetary donation to show your support would be greatly appreciated.
